HEAVYWEIGHT - In Cinemas Nationwide from 23 January
Heavyweight is a tense, powerful new British drama that takes audiences behind the scenes of elite sport – moments just before everything is on the line.
Directed by Nigerian-Lebanese filmmaker Christopher M. Anthony, Heavyweight follows a championship fighter and his team in the claustrophobic hours leading up to a major bout. As fight time approaches, pressure mounts, doubts surface, and the fighter begins to unravel. With the clock ticking, both internal struggles and external forces threaten to derail everything he has worked for.
As his cornermen fight to keep him focused and remind him that he deserves his place in the ring, Derek realises that the greatest weight he carries isn’t physical. To move forward, he must confront the part of himself holding him back – and face his toughest opponent yet: himself.
Shot in London, the film stars Nicholas Pinnock and Jordan Bolger, with an outstanding supporting cast including Jason Isaacs, Sienna Guillory, Osy Ikhile, Jamie Bamber, Nabil Elouahabi, Adrian Lukis and Blake Harrison.
Raw, immersive and emotionally charged, Heavyweight is a gripping exploration of mental health, self-belief and what it really takes to step into the ring when everything is at stake.
